Boston, Day 6

Lauren says: “Today our group the “Top Chefs” returned to the Boys and Girls club for another day of helping campers. As soon as we got there, Katie and I went down to the pond where the kids were getting ready to boat at. One of our favorite little campers, Isaac, came up to us immediately and handed us life jackets so we could go on the boats with them. After being given a ride around the pond by a camper, the kids got to go swimming again. Trinity, who is Isaac’s twin, had been a little hesitant around us the first two days, but really warmed up to me today. She decided not to go swimming so we sat on the edge of the pool together. Trinity had also had a bit of an attitude during the week but today she was really getting better. We sat together at lunch and played together on the playground. At one point while playing she got my camera and her and her friend, Adrianna, made videos about how much they were going to miss us when we left. Before we left, Trinity and I got to go on a hike together and had a great time exploring the outdoors. Leaving the camp today was really hard for us. There were lots of hugs and a few tears. We were shocked at how much the kids appreciated us being there to help them and that they truly loved and appreciated us. All of us who worked at the camp really enjoyed our time there and it is very hard to believe we won’t be able to see these kids again who we built such a strong bond with.”

Nolan says: “On this beautiful summer day. “Dancing with the stars” went to Walgreens and bought Mio which made water delectable. Scott drove. Today was our last joyous day with the elders of Briar Cliff. The day began with exercise with the residents. Sam led the exercise while Matt and I demonstrated with our amazing exercise abilities! ;) After a strenuous exercise routine which included boxing and leg lifts. We began to play basketball with the residents. That didn’t last very long, so we started ring toss. You would be amazed by the skills these older people present in the field of ring toss. They just make it look so easy and silky smooth the way they just whip that ring right on to the 25 point pole. It is pretty hard, I thought. Guess I won’t be playing that professionally anytime soon. Next we played “bounce-the-ball” on a giant parachute. It was quite comical and heartwarming to watch the energy and enthusiasm, one of the new residents, Michael, possessed. I loved his joyfulness and happiness. It warmed my heart and made me happy. In fact I had to have the chance to talk with him. One of the residents named John made thank you cards for all of us which was quite simply AMAZING. One of the outgoing ladies named Myra had to give Matt and I kisses which was nice….I guess! Fine! It was cool? ;) Francis gave back rubs to myself along with Sam and Darien. They were SUPER good! At our departure we said goodbye to the residents and presented them a group picture. They were so happy and thankful! IT WAS AMAZING! Well we are coming soon I guess so yea…I guess I’ll see my family and friends soon!  YEAH!
